fight against cancer. support relay for life.

April 7, 2009

despite any political, philosophical and religious differences, we can all agree on one thing: everyone hates cancer. and that's why the american cancer society's mission is to eliminate cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, education, advocacy and service.
historically, as the economy declines, request for acs's help significantly increases. given the current economic environment, cancer patients and caregivers are struggling to find resources to help them. that's where acs comes in. from providing ways to cope with an initial diagnosis to transporting patients to doctor's appointments to celebrating survivorship, acs strives to be involved with every aspect by providing free support to those who seek it. and acs does this solely through voluntary contributions.
that's where we come in. acs's top annual fundraising event, relay for life, is coming up. the relay for life event is a 12-hour overnight event where teams of people gather at schools or parks and take turns walking/running laps in honor or memory of those that have been affected by cancer. contributions made to this event go directly to support operations. for those wary of contributing to organizations that excessively spend on administration costs, trust me when i say, acs is very (very, very) lean on support expenses. in fact, i'm typing this in my cold and dark cube. (just kidding. not really.)
the fact that the economy is tightening our money belts is not lost on me. but as i mentioned above, troubled times cause more people to turn to acs. so. i'm asking you to please consider donating in any capacity you can. $10, $25, $50, $100. and please feel free to forward this request. any and every bit is welcome and appreciated.
